Umbrella Stand or Vase

Don't you love umbrella stands? There are so many cute ones. But most of them cost so much. Besides we don't get much rain here so I really don't need an umbrella stand. So I'm using mine for a big vase. Now I just have to make a bunch of big flowers.

Here's what I did.. ..Glued together two big containers the same diameter. One was a oatmeal, and one was and a chocolate milk mix. Doesn't really matter. But you will take the bottom off of the top container so that you have one long container.

Took a piece of fabric that was just a little longer and enough to go around three or four times the width of the container.

Did a long running stitch on the top and bottom and gathered to fit around the container.

Glued one side to the inside of the top.

Folded under the edge for a nicer finish.

Pulled tight and glued the other side around the bottom.

Cut off the ruffle that was extra around the bottom.

Glued  ribbon around the top and the bottom.

Pretty cute but needed some embellishment.

Cut the leftover lid smaller.

Glued the leftover ruffle around and around the circle.

Then it was a cute fabric flower but it needed a center.

Glued a big white button to the center.

Tied a piece of tuller around the vase and glued on the flower.

Done now I need to get busy making some big flowers to go in it. I would line the inside with plastic if its to be used as a umbrella stand to protect it from water.

Don't forget tomorrow is the last day for my giveaway!!!
