The Dayton Hat tutorial

Isn't he just adorable? I just love this little guy so much! I guess that's why I put up with him crawling in my bed in the middle of the night every night and kicking me the rest of it! Lol! Well any way with the weather getting colder I decided to try my hand at making him a brimmed beanie hat thing out of an old wool sweater I think it turned out pretty cool not quite what I was thinking but I think I like it! How about you?

Want to make one?

Supplies needed:

Wool sweater felted
scissors
beanie that fits the head your making the hat for
sewing machine and thread
pencil
paper

Use your beanie for your pattern lay it on top of your felted sweater and cut around it adding  enough room for sewing.

You should have two of these I cut mine at the bottom of the sweater so I would have the band at the bottom.

Make a pattern that looks like a sliver of a moon shape for the brim. and cut two of these from felt.

pin the brim pieces together and sew along the side that has the arrows.

Turn your brim right side facing now. I trim the funky ends I forgot to take a picture but I trim it similar to the arrows in the picture.

Now sew along the edge of your brim.

Pin your brim to one of your hat pieces with folding the bottom of your hat piece over your brim and pinning it like the above picture and sewing along the pinned section.

This is what your hat will look like so far. Cut off all the excess fabric at the brim area

Now turn your hat back inside out and fold in half  the opposite direction that you sewed together and about an inch down pin across the top of the hat. and then sew across that section.

Cut off the excess fabric.

Try it on your little one!

Dayton loves his "Dayton Hat"!

And he loves posing for the camera

It wasn't too cold outside lol! love the bare feet!

I hope you all like the Dayton hat I would love to see if you make one!

You're so Very Creative

Every Thursday Night or Friday night before our High School Football team plays at home we go and lay out quilts on the grand stands to save our spots and spots for our family. We aren't the only ones half the town does this. We live in a small town where this is about the only thing there is to do and so most of the town shows up. For the last four years that we have had a child playing high school football we have done this routine. Friday night we would just head straight up to our spot on the top row of the grand stands at the 50 yard line knowing it was there waiting for us.
My husband worked the day shift this last Friday so I sent the kids up to "our" spot and told them we would meet them up there as soon as I got my husband in with our pass. The kids quickly made their way back down saying all of our quilts were gone as were our spots. This was so disappointing you don't expect much to happen in our small town not even someone taking your quilts. I'm so bummed now it is cold and we are down to nearly no quilts. Why do people do things like this? It's sad that we won't be able to do this any more. Enough with my venting and on to more fun things...

Maybe someone will have a fun quilt idea this week??!!??

Welcome to another week of

Coffe Filter Mums

I know, I know another coffee filter craft I'm sorry but they are so inexpensive and so easy to work with!

So today I will show you how to make these Coffee Filter Mums. These are just the basic mums I will do more with them later but I wanted to get the basic flower out of the way first.

Don't forget this is the last day to enter my giveaway Here.

Supplies needed:

Coffee Filters
Stapler
Spray Paint
Scissors

To begin just spray paint several coffee filters in the color or colors that you want.

Stack at least four coffee filters on top of each other they can be the same or varying colors whatever you'd like.

Place a staple in the center of the stack of filters.

Take and cut slits down to where you can see the middle circle of the coffee filter.

Continue cutting all the way around the filters.

This is what you end up with it doesn't matter the spaces of cuts you make just whatever you want.

Then just take and smash up your cuts in your hand towards the middle of the filters all the way around.

Here is what you should have so far.

Now take and turn it over to the back of your now flower.

Pinch the middle together and staple together.

This is a second option for after you have all the slits cut for a slightly different look.
Scrunch into a ball.

Pull each coffee filter upward one at a time then continue as with other option.

Your done you have your basic Mum!
